"Seven years ago, on a cool winter afternoon, my then 1.5-year-old son Hanneke sat on his grandmother's lap. Together they looked out the window at the graceful birch tree in our neighbor's garden. As they watched, "Omi" told me a whimsical tale about squirrels drinking tea in the branches and sipping warm makktea. That simple, magical moment gave me goosebumps - and I've cherished it ever since.
Now, years later, I've captured this memory in my latest illustration, Makktea. It's a scene that evokes the coziness of winter - a day spent with your best friend, coming home to warm drinks, mummy snacks and rosy faces after being out in the freezing cold."
